PRICE: $89.00
TOUR DESCRIPTION:
Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973), heir to the Post cereal fortune, was the founder of
Hillwood Museum and Gardens - her former twenty-five acre estate in Washington, DC. Known as one of America’s first businesswomen, she was an distinguished art collector, noted philanthropist, and socialite. On her death in 1973, Mrs. Post’s final and most important philanthropic gesture became reality when Hillwood, her last estate in Washington, DC, was bequeathed to the public as a museum.
Ms. Post purchased this estate - originally known as Arbremont - in 1955 and renamed it Hillwood. Immediately after acquiring the estate, Ms. Post expanded the mansion and refurbishing the grounds and gardens.
With the guidance of Perry Wheeler, noted horticulturist who helped design and establish the White House Rose Gardens, Hillwood’s gardens were refurbished and expanded. Guests will browse through the gardens, which are composed of lawns, formal French and Japanese gardens, and paths that wind through plantings of azaleas, laurels and rhododendrons. Guests will tour Hillwood Museum and be shown a short film on the history of the mansion. TOUR: TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME! WASHINGTON NATIONALS BASEBALL VS. THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS
DATE: FRIDAY, MAY 23, 2008
TIME: 6:30PM-11:30PM
PRICE: $86.00
TOUR DESCRIPTION:
What’s even more American than baseball? Watching the national pastime in our nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C, of course!
This evening guests of AAPD will head to the ball game and catch the newest team in the major leagues, the Washington Nationals. Although new to the majors, Washington’s home team, like the capitol itself is fraught with history. Baseball began in the district with The Washington Senators, an American League team, from 1901 to 1960. The franchise then moved to Minneapolis and became, and still remains, the Minnesota Twins. For the next 45 years, baseball fans would have to travel north to Baltimore for their peanuts and crackerjack. In 1969, Canada joined the ranks of the National League with The Montréal Expos. Montreal faced many sluggish seasons and was often considered to be a small-market team that was unable to retain its hold against the dominant teams like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. On February 14, 2002, the owners agreed to eliminate the franchise along with the Minnesota Twins. Legal maneuvers however, prevented the Twins from being shuttered. As it was impossible to contract the Expos alone (which would have left an odd number of teams in Major League Baseball) without dramatically changing the number of games in a season, the Expos got a temporary reprieve. On September 29, 2004, MLB officially declared the Expos would be relocated to Washington D.C. and baseball would be restored once again in the district.
Traveling via luxury motor coach to the National’s new 41,000 seat state-of-the-art baseball stadium guests will have an opportunity to experience a ball game as a true American fan. From singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” to hotdogs, to the seventh inning stretch, guests will be enjoying the favorite national past time in style. First pitch is at 7:35pm against the Milwaukee Brewers.

A spy must live a life of lies. Guests will adopt a cover identity and learn why an operative needs one. They will see the credentials an agent must have to get in--or out, as in the case of six Americans exfiltrated from revolutionary Iran in 1979, courtesy of the Canadian Ambassador--and the CIA. Next guests will proceed directly to the Briefing Film where they'll come face to face with the real world of spying. Spies are motivated for very different reasons.
Guests will have an opportunity to examine over 200 spy gadgets, weapons, bugs, cameras, vehicles, and technologies. You’ll learn about microdots and invisible ink, buttonhole cameras and submarine recording systems, bugs of all sizes and kinds, and ingenious disguise techniques developed by Hollywood for the CIA. They’ll survey over 50 years of spy technology, developed by agencies from the OSS to the KGB, and still in use today.
Professional intelligence training, no matter the country or the era, focuses on developing innate skills, possessed to some degree by all of us. But in spies, these abilities must be honed to an extraordinary degree, to insure success, personal safety and expected results. Today guests will test their skills of observation, analysis, and surveillance at interactive stations. Can they do it? Do they have what it takes to be a spy?
There’s no better place to explore these possibilities than in the espionage capital of the world…Washington, DC!

The beautiful winding roads embracing the town of
Middleburg are dotted with picturesque horse farms and offer commanding views of the Blue Ridge and Bull Run Mountains. The breathtaking natural beauty of the area, only one hour from Washington, is the perfect backdrop for enjoying Middleburg’s unique mix of attractions.
There are approximately 600 people currently residing in the town established in 1787 by Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel and Virginia statesman, Leven Powell. He purchased the land for Middleburg for $2.50 an acre from Joseph Chinn, first cousin to George Washington. Previously called “Chinn’s Crossroads”, Powell chose the name Middleburg because of the town’s location midway between Alexandria and Winchester. Since the 1730s, Middleburg has been a staging point for weary travelers along the route between Alexandria and Winchester. The legacy of the colonel era continues today at Middleburg’s charming inns that provide first-rate accommodations to visitors from around the world.
